Plugged Pipes?

This is not the most appealing topic, but here we go…  (I really hate chemicals and the smells that fill my house when I use them.  I try to use non-stinky stuff whenever possible.)

Plugged toilet?

1-squirt some liquid dish soap (not dishwasher detergent) into the bowl as near to the clog as possible.

2-Let it sit a few minutes and flush.  Lots of the time it will go down fine and you can avoid the loose toilet that comes from too much plunging. (plus, who really enjoys plunging toilets?)

3-If it’s really stuck, give it a plunge.  The soap will still help it go down easier and your toilet will be cleaner.

4- If you have constant plugging problems, consider leaving a bottle of dish soap (the cheap dollar store one works great) by the toilet and give it a squirt in advance if you think there’s potential for a clog.

Clogged Sink/Tub/Shower drain?

1- pull out as much hair, etc. that you can.

2-sprinkle in some baking soda liberally

3- Pour in some white vinegar

(yes, this is the same mix used to make volcanoes erupt at the science fair!)

4- let it sit a few minutes (the chemical reaction will breakdown the clog)

5- wash down with hot water

6- if it’s still clogged – repeat (try using more or letting it sit a bit longer)
